Case Description:

A chemistry expert in paper products was needed in a patent case to defend against claims of patent infringement involving a patent related to chemicals used in the papermaking process which inhibit growth of bacteria in slurry.

IMS ExpertServices was asked to locate a testifying expert with a degree in chemistry and expertise in the chemistry of the papermaking process, specifically with experience in the use of biocides to prevent bacteria growth. He is a member of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC), and serves on the editorial review board of a pulp and paper industry journal. This expert holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering and earned his master’s degree and professional mechanical engineering (P.M.E.) degree from a leading technology research institution.     With over twenty-five years of combined academic and industry experience in various aspects of the paper product industry, this expert currently serves as the director of a U.S. university’s paper technology transfer center, which facilitates leading paper scientists in developing technologies suitable for patent to the marketplace. This expert holds a B.S. in chemistry and a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry. For over two decades, he worked for a number of leading nationally recognized paper product companies, and was primarily involved in papermaking process and product development of paperboard and paper products. His earlier experience includes overseeing paper process and trial in manufacturing sites producing a wide variety of paper products. He has authored or co-authored over a dozen articles published in peer-reviewed journals and has received numerous awards in the paper industry.
