Mining Engineering Expert in Vertical Conveyor Systems

Case Description:

A mining engineering expert with a background in vertical conveyor systems was needed for a breach of contract case in the coal mining industry. At issue was damage to a coal mine which resulted when a vertical conveyor system collapsed. The vertical conveyor belt system, or VBS, was designed and constructed with mechanical backstops to prevent such the conveyor belt system from reversing due to the weight of its load, but the mechanical backstops failed.

IMS ExpertServices was asked to locate mining engineering experts with knowledge of the design and engineering of vertical conveyor systems for mining operations, specifically conveyor built systems. The expert was requested to perform forensic failure analysis, examine the construction drawings for the bulk handing system, and opine as the cause of the bulk handling system's collapse.
